Spanish football club Barcelona opened an office in New York, relying on the influence of stars like Lionel Messi and Neymar, who can attract sponsors and promote the annual revenues to over 1 billion dollars, writes Bloomberg, citing official information from the team.
FC Barcelona has already entered into partnerships with American brands like Gatorade, Black & Decker, Gilette, and Nike, which are connected with the club from La Liga by about 20 years, said team president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
The club plans to increase its annual revenues to 1.1 billion dollars by 2021, which is 46% more than the current 753 million dollars, said the Chief Financial Officer of the team Francesco Calvo.
Neither Calvo nor Bartomeu revealed details about which companies can become sponsors of the team. They point out that in the coming weeks and months could be announced transactions.
Barcelona is not the first major European soccer team, which is heading to American fans. German Bayern Munich opened an office in New York last year.
Bartomeu said that they do not follow the footsteps of other clubs but are pursuing their own strategic plans for the opening of the club to the world.
The team has an office in Asia. According to Bartomeu, this is the biggest market for the club.
FC Barcelona reached a value of 3.5 billion dollars, ranking second after Real Madrid (3.6 billion dollars), according to the world ranking of the magazine Forbes. British Manchester United is third with 3.3 billion dollars.
Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid is the most highly paid player with 82 million dollars, followed by Messi with 77 million dollars, adds Forbes. Third is Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Manchester United, and the fourth – Neymar.
