Global sales of Tesla Motors delayed in Q1 2016, reaching 14,820 cars. The sales reported year-on-year growth of 50%, but staying below the forecasts, due to problems with supplies. The manufacturer of electric vehicles, targeted sales of 16,000 cars in the first quarter, slightly less than 17,400 cars during the previous three months. Tesla Motors sold 12,420 cars from sedan Models S and another 2,400 SUVs Model X, but not publishing the data per regions.
The manufacturer blamed the problems with the production of its sports car due to confidence and adding too much technology to the first version of the Model X. This was followed by difficulties in the production of some of the parts of the car.
Tesla announced that it has reached a production of 750 cars Model X in the week before the end of March, which is close to the plant’s full capacity. The company maintained its forecast for 80,000-90,000 deliveries in 2016. Tesla sales continue to grow as the company continues its expansion into new markets and increase production capacity. It has sold more than 50,000 vehicles in 2015.
The finance statement was announced just a few days days after Tesla began taking orders for its new car Model 3. For the first days the orders reached 276,000. Interest in Model 3 shows the high demand for the products of Tesla, which prices start at 76,000 USD and top versions exceed 100,000 USD. However, Tesla Model 3 is the first car of the company for the mass market with a starting price of 35,000 USD and average delivery price of 42,000 USD.
